Welcome to my blog. I would like it to be a kind of nursery bed, to plant seeds and see what grows.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Two pumpkin pies and one apple galette captured before they got eaten. We also had roast turkey, cornbread and sausage stuffing, twice-baked potatoes, green beans tossed with garlic and herbs, gravy, cranberry sauce, and good conversation and company.
The pies (and galette) were delicious. Here's a photo of them beautifully plated with a dollop of sweet whipped cream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rpnorton/4142706828/
And one of the younger relatives enjoying her dessert(s) with gusto! http://www.flickr.com/photos/rpnorton/4142705034/
Sadly, I had to temporarily halt my Chinese studies, since I am taking two other classes and didn't want to overdo it. I hope to resume in the future, since I really enjoyed it. I am still looking at characters in signs around town and hope I can pick up a few on my own.
What I'm Reading Right Now:
"The license was registered under my Chinese name, Ho Wei. It was valid for six years, and to protect against counterfeiters, the document featured a hologram of a man standing atop an ancient horse-drawn carriage. The figure was dressed in flowing robes, like portraits of the Daoist philosopher Lao Tzu, with an upraised arm pointing into the distance. Later that year I set out to drive across China." --Peter Hessler, Country Driving: A Journey Through China from Farm to Factory
