Welcome to my blog. I would like it to be a kind of nursery bed, to plant seeds and see what grows.

Welcome Lucy Alice!
My new little cousin came into the world yesterday in New York City. She joins a couple of other lovely ladies with a middle name in honor of Grandma Alice.
thank you for your lovely welcome for Lucy Alice! I just came across it- needless to say I haven't been keeping up with reading my blogs lately- what a nice surprise to see. I liked your poem as well, and your photos are always beautiful...
Sadly, I had to temporarily halt my Chinese studies, since I am taking two other classes and didn't want to overdo it. I hope to resume in the future, since I really enjoyed it. I am still looking at characters in signs around town and hope I can pick up a few on my own.
What I'm Reading Right Now:
"The license was registered under my Chinese name, Ho Wei. It was valid for six years, and to protect against counterfeiters, the document featured a hologram of a man standing atop an ancient horse-drawn carriage. The figure was dressed in flowing robes, like portraits of the Daoist philosopher Lao Tzu, with an upraised arm pointing into the distance. Later that year I set out to drive across China." --Peter Hessler, Country Driving: A Journey Through China from Farm to Factory
Books Read 2010
Margaret Atwood: Year of the Flood
Tom Miller, ed.: How I Learned English
C.J. Sansom: Winter in Madrid
Alexander McCall Smith: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
Willam Bryant Logan: Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth
